Tyler Roberts’ international teammate Ethan Ampadu could be a fantastic loan target for Leeds United in January.

With Marcelo Bielsa clearly preferring to work with a smaller squad, Leeds fans should probably not expect a raft of changes to come during the January transfer window unless the Whites have to content with several more long-term injuries.

The Leeds squad are buying into what Bielsa is asking of them, and a considerable number of new signings could risk rocking the boat too much as the club look to sustain a promotion charge for the entirety of the campaign.

But if the right player is available, then Leeds should definitely act. And perhaps the right player could be up for grabs in a couple of months, with Birmingham Live reporting that Aston Villa and Derby County are eyeing a loan deal for Ethan Ampadu.

It is not clear whether Chelsea have any interest in letting the 18-year-old leave for the second-half of the season. But if they are prepared to consider a deal, then Leeds must consider throwing their hat in the ring.

The biggest worry for the Whites has to be their lack of depth at centre-back with Gaetano Berardi sidelined with injury. Ampadu – who is an international teammate of Tyler Roberts – could improve their options in that area of the field while also giving Kalvin Phillips something to think about given his ability to play in midfield.

Villa and Derby may appear to have an advantage with former Chelsea players holding prominent roles in their respective backroom teams, but Leeds have already agreed three loan deals with the Blues this term.

If Bielsa does not want too many new signings in January, then bringing Ampadu to Elland Road could be perfect. His versatility and potential could be exactly what Leeds need as they look to remain at the Championship’s summit.
