Leeds must reignite interest in Jarrod Bowen amid £5m move reports

Leeds United reportedly wanted to sign Jarrod Bowen during the summer, and should have another look as he is linked with a January move.

Most of Marcelo Bielsa’s recent comments on the upcoming January transfer window hint that Leeds fans should not expect a raft of signings next month despite the congested Championship promotion race.

There are areas of the squad that require attention. It would be a shock if Leeds did not sign a goalkeeper to rival Bailey Peacock-Farrell, but they have the options everywhere else on the field that may leave Bielsa confident that he does not need multiple deals.

Snubbing the archetypal January signing – the kind of short-term fix only brought in because of how difficult it is to sign marquee players – makes sense.

But Bielsa surely will not ignore potential targets who could come in and genuinely strengthen a Leeds side that are flying high, and may be available at a decent price next month.

And one player that he should arguably have on his radar is Jarrod Bowen, the Hull City forward Leeds looked at in the summer, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Sun has reported that Fulham and Cardiff City are keen on Bowen who is being valued at £5 million. Given his form since Hull’s relegation, Leeds should seriously look at reigniting their interest.

The 21-year-old has scored 20 Championship goals in 63 games in the second tier. He has also provided four assists. It is a very good return for a youngster who has predominantly featured on the wing for the Tigers.

Leeds have plenty of options out wide. But with players such as Gjanni Alioski and Jack Harrison struggling to impress, Bielsa should arguably consider adding to his ranks.

Bowen is the kind of player who would add competition immediately, but could improve significantly in the coming years, especially in a side that spends more time on the front foot than his current team do.

Bielsa’s confidence in Leeds not needing January signings should perhaps encourage the Elland Road faithful, but there are still players on the market who must not be ignored and Bowen is arguably one of them given that a move looks to potentially be on the cards.
