Leeds United reportedly turned down the chance to sign Michel Vorm on loan this month, but the Whites do need to sign another goalkeeper.
It will have surprised a large portion of the Elland Road faithful when the Yorkshire Evening Post reported this week that Leeds had rejected the chance to loan Michel Vorm.
The report suggested that Tottenham had offered the Whites the chance to take the Dutchman until the end of the season. But Marcelo Bielsa’s men are seemingly looking elsewhere.
Deciding against signing a player of Vorm’s calibre and experience appears to be a huge gamble for the Championship leaders. Signing a new stopper seems to be a priority with questions being asked of Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s form at various points this season.
Peacock-Farrell is performing well enough and showing enough promise that Leeds can simply look at a loan deal until the summer. But not signing a new goalkeeper appears to be a major risk.
And that is why Leeds must look at reports emerging from The Sun this week which have suggested that second tier rivals Preston North End are keen on loaning Joe Hart from Burnley.
If Hart is available, then the Whites must consider an approach. The Premier League winner has made 19 top flight appearances this term. Of course, his form has dipped since his best days with Manchester City, but he would arguably be a fantastic signing for any Championship side this month.
He is not only looking much better this season than he has in previous years, but he could also be the kind of commanding presence that the promotion-chasers perhaps need, especially given his knowledge of what it takes to get across the line and win a league title.
Bielsa rejecting Vorm surely piles the pressure on during the remaining weeks of the window. If Preston manage to get a deal done for Hart, perhaps that pressure will increase further given that a new goalkeeper should surely be near the very top of Leeds’ shopping list.
