Things went from bad to worse for Liverpool on Saturday evening, as what appeared to be a 1-1 draw with Leeds turned into a 2-1 defeat with seconds to go.
Crysencio Summerville struck late to secure the win for Leeds, but in doing so, he also ended his fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk’s remarkable unbeaten record at Anfield.
Since arriving from Southampton in a £75m deal back in January 2018, the Liverpool No.4 had never tasted defeat at Anfield – amazingly, his record stretched across 70 games.
Now, Leeds have acknowledged that fact on social media, poking fun at the £240,000-a-week man for finally losing a game at Anfield.
Leeds mock Liverpool after 2-1 win
Well, the Whites have decided to rub it in and mock the Reds on TikTok, as they posted a video showing Van Dijk ball-watching while Rodrigo nipped in to open the scoring.
Leeds also added some WWE audio to the clip – “the streak is over” can be heard playing in the background.
Clearly, those at Elland Road are still enjoying their win even days later, and they have every right to soak it up – not many teams beat Liverpool at Anfield nowadays.
The result leaves Liverpool languishing ninth in the Premier League with just 16 points from a possible 36.
In regards to Leeds, Jesse Marsch can now breathe a bit easier, as the win lifted his side out of the relegation zone into 15th place on 12 points.
Liverpool need reinforcements after Leeds loss
In our view, Liverpool have to turn to fresh faces to get them out of their current situation.
Jürgen Klopp has been loyal to the same group for a number of years now, with the exception of a few arrivals every now and again, but it is clear for all to see that the German’s squad has run out of steam.

The rigours of competing for the quadruple last season appear to have taken a lot out of Liverpool, while the squad has not been freshened up to counterbalance that.
Now, if Liverpool fail to make at least three key additions in January, they can kiss goodbye to any hopes they have of salvaging their season.
