Leeds United won’t be signing the Premier League flop.
Well, Jordan Hugill definitely won’t be joining Leeds United this summer.
The print edition of The Sun on June 23 reported that the Elland Road were interested in signing the West Ham United flop, who cost £10 million 18 months ago [BBC Sport] and managed only three games for the Irons.
But this afternoon it has been announced that Hugill has signed for QPR on loan.
It’s the second reported United target who they’ve missed out on in recent days after Romaine Sawyers joined West Brom, but this one is a lucky escape for Leeds.
Yes, he is an established Championship striker, but not exactly a prolific one by virtue of the fact that he scored only six goals in 37 outings for Middlesbrough last season.
If Leeds sign a striker, it’ll be as cover for Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe and Hugill just isn’t prolific enough to step in and do a job if either of those two are absent, which isn’t an unlikely scenario if last season is anything to go by.
Plus, money is tight for the Whites this summer. They’re predominantly only making loan signings and even though Hugill was available on loan, QPR are paying 60 percent of his wages, which is over £20,000-a-week [The Sun].
There’s still a major financial commitment that Leeds would’ve had to agree to and, well, he just wasn’t worth it, going by his goal return.
