Leeds United have officially missed out on signing Lucas Vazquez from Real Madrid, as he has penned a new long term deal at Real Madrid it was revealed yesterday.

It was claimed earlier in the year by Defensa Central. that Marcelo Bielsa has specifically requested that Leeds made an attempt to land Vazquez.

At that stage it seemed that the Spaniard was set to leave Madrid at the end of his contract.

However, after Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival, Vazquez has now been handed a new deal.

The fact that he has signed until 2024 surely takes him out of Leeds’ reach and means that they will have to look elsewhere for wing options.

That may be a disappointment for Bielsa, who seemingly had Vazquez on his wishlist.

However, the signing always looked to be a very ambitious one, especially as the 29-year-old, who was once called ‘top-class’ by Rafael Benitez (Marca), performed well for Madrid over the past campaign.

Leeds, meanwhile, have been linked with numerous other attacking targets already, with the addition of a creative midfielder seemingly right at the top of their list of priorities for the transfer window.
