The Leeds United youngster didn’t feature heavily in the Under-20 World Cup.
Leeds United made a very good, but very low-profile signing in January.
The Championship club signed 17-year-old midfielder Mateusz Bogusz, who went on to impress for United’s Under-23 side during the second half of the season.
As a result, the Leeds teenager was drafted into Poland’s squad for the Under-20 World Cup on home soil, but it ended in disappointment for the Whites starlet yesterday.
The Poles were eliminated in the first knockout round of the competition, losing 1-0 to Italy in Gdynia.
Bogusz was an unused substitute, as he was in their final two group games against Tahiti and Senegal respectively.
The Leeds man started the 2-0 defeat by Colombia on the opening day of the tournament, but was replaced after 68 minutes and that was to be his last action of the competition.
He’ll be devastated not only by their elimination, but his lack of game time.
Nevertheless, Bogusz remains a serious prospect, so much so that a Manchester City scout said last month that he regrets missing out on the teenager [Przeglad Sportowy].
It might be a bit early for him to start making waves in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior side next season, but he turns 18 in August – the same age as Jack Clarke – so if he makes a huge impression in pre-season, who knows.
