Leeds United shouldn’t give up trying to sign Ryan Kent.
Leeds United might be losing a winger in the form of Jack Clarke this summer.
The 18-year-old is heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur who, according to The Express, are closing in on a £15 million deal to bring him to North London.
He would be going back to Elland Road on loan, if that report is true, but Leeds will still need a long-term replacement and Marcelo Bielsa shouldn’t give up hope of getting Ryan Kent.
The Liverpool winger, rated at £12 million [The Echo], is ‘open’ to joining the Whites [Leeds Live] but Rangers assistant Gary McAllister said on Friday that the Scots were ‘first in line’ to re-sign the 22-year-old if the Reds made him available for another loan.
The prospect of playing under Steven Gerrard will entice Kent, who improved in a big way last season, but Bielsa has much more clout in the realm of player development and surely a switch to West Yorkshire is difficult to turn down.
There is an argument to be made that Clarke’s imminent move to Spurs is a direct result of Bielsa’s coaching, given that he came from nowhere and established himself as a first-team star last season – for a while, anyway.
Kent, also a left-sided winger, must look at Clarke’s improvement and wonder what a year under the veteran Argentine coach could do for his game.
Gerrard is a big draw in Glasgow, but Bielsa, who has disciples in Mauricio Pochettino and Pep Guardiola, is a much bigger one and the 63-year-old shouldn’t give up trying to sign the Liverpool man until he has officially moved to Scotland.
