Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa reacts to Lee Johnson’s comments

Leeds earned a 2-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday afternoon.

Marcelo Bielsa disagreed with Bristol City manager Lee Johnson’s post-match comments when talking to BBC Radio Leeds, after the Robins manager claimed Leeds United were lucky.

Leeds earned a comfortable 2-0 win over Johnson’s side at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, thanks to second-half goals from Kemar Roofe and Pablo Hernandez, after City had gone down to 10 men.

Josh Brownhill was sent off for a second yellow card after a late tackle on Roofe, with the scoreline still at 0-0. Johnson said: “They got away with it. We were the side who looked like we were going on to win until the red card.”

But Argentine manager Bielsa disagreed with Johnson, claiming that Leeds had dominated the match and that he could not remember City having any chances of taking away Will Huffer’s clean sheet on the youngster’s debut.

“It’s a point of view that we have to respect. But we virtually didn’t concede any chances for our opponent,” Bielsa said. “As far as I know I don’t remember anything of note that they created. It was a very comfortable debut for our goalkeeper.

“When I see the game again I will take this into account this point of view that we didn’t deserve the result. That we played with one player more made it easy for us. But that wasn’t the only reason we won. We created plenty of chances.”

Roofe broke the deadlock in the 69th minute, tapping the ball into the net after Hernandez’s strike squirmed into the path of Leeds’ number seven. Substitute Samu Saiz’s chipped ball fell perfectly to Hernandez, who headed home Leeds’ second.

Despite fielding two debutants in Huffer and defender Aapo Halme, Leeds won their ninth Championship fixture of the season and sit in third place – a point behind Middlesbrough and four off leaders Norwich City.

The Whites are next in action against Reading at Elland Road in a match they will be expected to win, with the Royals struggling under Paul Clement. They have won just two points from their last possible 15.
