The fixture computer has thrown up a cracker on the opening weekend of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Leeds will travel to Old Trafford to face bitter rivals Manchester United. Hopefully in front of a full house.

It’s an opportunity to avenge the 6-2 loss suffered there in December.

That was a big day for Leeds, one they’d waited a long time for and they were 2-0 down within minutes.

It was an open game thereafter but Marcelo Bielsa’s side were unable to turn the tide.

Kalvin Phillips was unable to deal with Bruno Fernandes that day. He shackled the Portuguese at Elland Road in April, however.

He’ll be looking to repeat that trick on Fernandes’ own patch, in front of a packed house.

Phillips played a more box to box role for England on Sunday, but it would be a surprise if Bielsa moved him away from the holding role.

It wasn’t Patrick Bamford’s day at Old Trafford either.

He scored at Anfield and Stamford Bridge last season and is more than capable of adding the Theatre of Dreams to the collection.

And it will be another chance for Bielsa’s men to showcase their defensive resilience, which was really evident in the closing months of the season.

Last time around, they went to Old Trafford with Luke Ayling at centre-half. He can do the job but with two specialist central defenders, Leeds can prove that the 6-2 wasn’t a fair reflection and won’t be happening again.
