Darren Bent has told TalkSPORT (Tuesday, 9:25AM) that if Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa was in charge of Manchester City – then he would win the Premier League. Bielsa has been sensational as Leeds gaffer.
Taking over in the summer of 2018, Bielsa has used the same core of players to take Leeds from 13th in the Championship table – to ninth in the Premier League last term. Leeds sit comfortably above the drop zone, in 15th.
In Yorkshire, Bielsa is already seen as one of the club’s greatest-ever managers – up there with the likes of Don Revie and Howard Wilkinson. He remains out of contract in June, but he has always worked on a rolling deal.
However, it could be that this season is Bielsa’s last at Elland Road – and it remains to be seen whether he will depart come the summer. Asked how Bielsa would do with Manchester City, he thinks he would win the title.
“He’d win a Premier League title. I think he could win major honours with manchester city for sure. Pep has an abundance of talent, I think Bielsa could do some damage at Manchester City and win titles,” Bent said.
Bent on Bielsa: Why Leeds boss might struggle at Manchester City
One of the main reasons why Bielsa chose to take over at Championship side Leeds in 2018 is that, the players would buy into his way of management. The Leeds players were in awe, when Bielsa arrived.
It meant they immediately did everything and anything he said – because they knew it would take them to the Premier League. If Bielsa joined Manchester City, would he win over the entire squad like he has at Leeds?
Would he be able to convince the egos, personalities at Manchester City to work the way he works his Leeds players? Sleeping at the training ground, double – even triple sessions? Probably not. Leeds is perfect for Bielsa.
