Ouasim Bouy’s time away from Leeds United is not exactly going to plan despite the midfielder making his first league start of the season.
It would be a huge surprise if Ouasim Bouy ever got the chance to play for Leeds in a competitive game as he continues to wait for his Whites debut more than a year after the Championship side decided to take a gamble on the former Juventus man.
Bouy struggled at Cultural Leonesa last year and his loan move to Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle this summer appeared to represent his final throw of the dice as he tries to turn his situation around at Elland Road.
It was always a mammoth task lying ahead of Bouy. But Mateusz Klich’s promising spell out on loan in The Netherlands during the second-half of last season may have given the 25-year-old some hope.
And, after a slow start, it appeared that the tide may be turning for the midfielder.
He made his first start of the season in the 5-2 cup win away at De Graafschap on Tuesday and got the chance to keep his place away at Fortuna Sittard on Sunday – presenting Bouy with his first league start of the campaign.
Unfortunately, the game did not go to plan for PEC as they were thrashed 3-0 and Bouy only made it to half-time before he was substituted. In fairness to the former Ajax trainee, the score was 1-0 when he was replaced, but it is still not a positive sign that he only played 45 minutes whatever the reason.
Bouy could seemingly not afford to have any setbacks this season if he wanted to stand a chance of earning a lifeline under Marcelo Bielsa. And while he has struggled up until this point, it may well be crushing for the 2017 signing that the glimmer of hope given to him this week has possibly disappeared already.
