Leeds outcast Bouy has endured a difficult loan spell at PEC Zwolle.
Ouasim Bouy’s estranged Leeds United career has seen him return to former club PEC Zwolle on a season-long loan, but the midfielder continues to struggle in the top tier of Dutch football.
The 25-year-old had been feeding off scraps with the Dutch side since joining the club in the summer, with Marcelo Bielsa ruling that the former Juventus man had no chance of breaking into the Leeds side this season.
It took Dutch-born star until November to start his first Eredivisie outing for Zwolle during his loan spell, but he was immediately dropped to the bench and remained an unused substitute for the next match.
However, Bouy started and finished Zwolle’s 2-0 win over De Graafschap on December 1, and that performance saw him earn the chance to face Eredivisie giants and Champions League side Ajax on Saturday.
But it did not go to plan for Bouy, who was given a new role in the side. In an interesting move from Zwolle, Buoy was ordered to play at centre-back – but the move did not prove successful as Ajax strolled to a 4-1 win.
Pocket-sized midfielder Lasse Schone scored once, as did midfield partner Frenkie de Jong, while former Southampton winger Dusan Tadic and Netherlands icon Klaas-Jan Huntelaar also got their names on the score sheet.
Though a loss to Ajax was expected for Zwolle, fans will have been disappointed to concede four goals on home soil. With Bouy at centre-back, the Leeds loanee has to take part in some of the blame.
It remains to be seen if he will start the next game for his loan side, as they play host to NAC Breda on Saturday. In regards to Bouy’s future at Elland Road – he has a contract until the summer of 2021.
