Matthew Pennington has arrived at Leeds United from Everton on a season-long loan.
Matthew Pennington has told LUTV that he had been aware of Leeds’ interest in him for a number of weeks before being convinced to make the move to Elland Road after talking to Whites boss Thomas Christiansen, and suggested what he considers to be his best position.
The Everton youngster has arrived at Leeds on a season-long loan, and will undoubtedly be a welcome addition to Christiansen’s ranks with the side currently lacking options in defence.

But Leeds faced competition for his signature, with the Daily Mail recently reporting that Hull City were also keen on the 22-year-old. And he suggested that ultimately, it was a conversation with the Whites boss that helped make his mind up about making the move.
“I heard of the interest a few weeks ago, and then after speaking to the manager the other day, I was convinced that this was the best place for me to develop and a good style of play to play in,” he told LUTV.
As mentioned, Leeds certainly needed to bolster their options at the back – especially in the middle with Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper previously being the only out-and-out centre-backs in the senior squad.
But after being asked where his best position is, Pennington has seemingly confirmed that he has been brought in to improve that situation.
“I see myself as a centre-half, but I can do a job at right-back if needed, but I think I’m a centre-half,” he added.

While Pennington is a somewhat unproven talent in the top two tiers, Leeds fans can perhaps be optimistic that he will be fully determined to succeed during his time with the Whites.
He has had a taste of playing in the Premier League, so will surely want to impress enough during his time at Elland Road that he earns a chance to enjoy regular top flight football in the future.
