Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has piled the praise on teammate Pablo Hernandez after the latter’s assist proved crucial in the Whites triumphing over Sheffield Wednesday in Saturday’s Championship clash at Elland Road.
Despite their early dominance in front of the Leeds faithful on their home turf, Marcelo Bielsa’s charged struggled to convert their chances, with Owls goalkeeper Keiren Westwood in inspired form in between the sticks.
However, Leeds eventually broke their opponents’ resistance not long after the hour mark when Harrison got the better of Michael Hector and coolly guided Hernandez’s cross from the right beyond the reach of Westwood.
The goal proved the difference between the two Yorkshire sides and the Whites currently sit second in the Championship table, three points ahead of fellow automatic promotion hopefuls Sheffield United with just four games to go.
“Anything can happen when Pablo Hernandez has the ball, he managed to find me and I tried to direct it towards goal and luckily for us it went in,” Harrison told the official Leeds site. “It’s in our hands, we just have to keep going.”
The Easter break brings two matchdays as Leeds prepare to host Wigan Athletic at Elland Road on Good Friday before heading to Brentford on Easter Monday and the Whites will be eager for more Hernandez magic.
The Spaniard has been an indispensable member of Bielsa’s side this season, weighing in with 12 goals and 11 assists, according to Transfermarkt, while Harrison, the 3.5million Euro (approx £3million)-valued Manchester City loanee, has four goals and three assists.
