Lewie Coyle could be recalled by Leeds this month.
Leeds United loanee Lewie Coyle has told the Blackpool Gazette that he is focused on remaining at Fleetwood Town until he receives a “phone call” from his parent club.
The 22-year-old has become somewhat of an assist machine from right-back for Uwe Rosler’s side, adding five assists in his 29 league and cup appearances for the Trawlermen.
However, there claims that Coyle could rejoin his parent club to provide cover for Gaetano Berardi at right-back after Luke Ayling was ruled out for the entire campaign with an ankle injury.
But with Wednesday’s deadline fast approaching, Coyle is yet to be asked to return to Elland Road despite there being a clause in his season-long loan deal that allows his loan to be cancelled this month.
“Until I get that phonecall saying I am going back to Leeds I am fully focused on being a Fleetwood Town player,” Coyle said. “They have given me the platform to kick on this year and get game time and progress in my career.
“I’m forever grateful for that. I’m fully focused at Fleetwood and I’m not thinking about that right now.”
Leeds do have back-up in the form of Holland international Vurnon Anita, but the summer signing from Newcastle United has hardly made the required impact at Elland Road this season.
For now, the signing of Laurens De Bock this month means Leeds can push Berardi into right-back to replace Ayling. But without adequate cover, Leeds could regret deciding against a Coyle recall.
