Leeds United are reportedly keen to bring Jack Harrison back to Elland Road for a second loan spell.
Jack Harrison may have divided Leeds supporters during his year at Elland Road, but The Sun has reported this week that the Whites are desperate to bring him back permanently next season.
Marcelo Bielsa put a lot of faith in Harrison. And it appeared that that belief in the Manchester City-owned ace would pay off in sensational fashion as it was his outstanding assist that led to Leeds taking a 1-0 lead into the second-leg of their play-off semi-final.
But Bielsa’s hopes of bringing Harrison back next season appear to have been scuppered with the Premier League champions wanting between £15 and £20 million for the 22-year-old, according to The Sun. The report notes that City are reluctant to agree another loan.
Unsurprisingly, plenty of Leeds fans could not get their head around his reported asking price. The number of game-changing displays from his time in Yorkshire could probably be counted on one hand, and there may be some supporters who may actually be pleased that Leeds appear to have been priced out of a move.
In fact, if Manchester City want to get £20 million for the wide-man, then shelving plans to sell him this summer and instead loaning him back to Leeds for another year may be the best thing that Pep Guardiola’s men can do.
It would be a big surprise if another club was willing to pay that figure. But given the amount of faith that Bielsa had in Harrison, another loan spell at Leeds may make a real difference.
If he can find some consistency and produce those moments of magic on a more regular basis – Bielsa is seemingly confident he can do exactly that – City will have a £20 million player on their books. But as things stand, it is surely an incredibly ambitious asking price.
On this occasion, perhaps sending him back to Leeds for another year may be an inspired move.
