Leeds United have been mentioned as a potential suitor for Jack Colback.
According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback will be offered out to clubs in January, with Birmingham City and Leeds United watching him in action.
Colback, 28, joined Newcastle from rivals Sunderland back in the summer of 2014, penning a deal with his boyhood club after his Black Cats deal expired.
The midfielder was a regular in his first three seasons with the Magpies, racking up nearly 100 appearances for the club before falling out of favour this term.
Colback has been frozen out by Rafael Benitez this season, and The Chronicle now report that that he will be offered out to Championship clubs in January, after Birmingham City and Leeds United watched him in action for the Newcastle Under-23’s last week.
Leeds have seen summer signing Mateusz Klich struggle to make an impact since his move from Twente, and with Vurnon Antia offering cover at full back, manager Thomas Christiansen may look to bring in another midfielder in January.
Colback would offer something that many of Leeds’ summer additions didn’t bring, and that’s experience of English football, but he may have to budge on a bizarre concern from August.
The Mirror reported in October that Colback was offered moves to Hull City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, but turned down both clubs for ‘geographical reasons’, which may mean Leeds are relying on a re-think.
If Colback wasn’t prepared to join Hull, then he is unlikely to be much more open to joining Leeds, though if he wants to stay in the North East, his options are limited; Sunderland are unlikely to take him back after his controversial exit, whilst there is nothing to suggest that Middlesbrough are keen.
Leeds may be one of Colback’s better options, being less than 100 miles from Newcastle, but whether his alleged stance will change remains to be seen.
