Leeds signed Ouasim Buoy from Juventus last summer.

The situation surrounding Ouasim Bouy continues to dumbfound Leeds United fans. Yet to make a senior appearance for the Whites since his move to Elland Road last summer, the Whites are now being linked with other midfielders.

Bouy, 24, joined Leeds as one of Victor Orta’s signings from Italian champions Juventus before being immediately shipped out on loan to Spanish second division side Cultural Leonesa – where Yosuke Ideguchi has also been.

The midfielder’s loan hardly proved beneficial, featuring just four times for the Spanish outfit before returning to Yorkshire in January. But he has since been overlooked by Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom.

The perfect chance to give him game time seemed to crop in the form of Leeds’ controversial trip to Myanmar, but the Netherlands Under-19 international was overlooked by Heckingbottom in his 22-man squad.

Now, Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims Leeds are interested in signing Venezia central midfielder Leo Stulac this summer, despite already boasting plenty of options in the middle of the park.

Bouy remains behind the likes of Eunan O’Kane, Adam Forshaw, Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips, while Matuesz Klich is set to return from his loan at FC Twente and Ideguchi from his at Leonesa. Add Stulac into that pile, and there is simply no place for Bouy.

So, why are Leeds looking at signing a central midfielder in Stulac, when Bouy remains untried? His calibre suggests that he would be a decent option for Heckingbottom – making senior appearances for Juventus, Palermo, Hamburg and Panathinaikos.

But the mystery remains. Bouy is yet to be given a chance, but realistically, will he actually get a shot at proving his worth? With the signing of Stulac, it seems as though he will not.
