Leeds United were rumoured to be going after Claudio Bravo this summer.

Back in February, En Cancha reported that Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa was a fan of the Manchester City goalkeeper and wanted him at Elland Road.

There hasn’t been much speculation about a move to Leeds since, perhaps in part because the global health crisis resulted in the Championship being temporarily suspended.

But if United are genuinely interested then they’re interested in South America’s best goalkeeper and one who’s better than Liverpool’s Alisson, according to a former team-mate.

Renny Vega played alongside the veteran Chilean stopper at Colo Colo, and here’s what he said via The Scottish Sun: “For me, Claudio Bravo is the best goalkeeper in South America. Even at 37 he remains superior to Alisson Becker. I don’t know where he will go next, but whoever signs him will be getting a great character.”

It’s a pretty outlandish claim by Vega, considering Alisson has effectively won the Champions League and Premier League over the past 12 months and is probably one of the best keepers in the world right now.

But Bravo, like Alisson, is not only a brilliant shot-stopper, but a brilliant footballer in general and the latter might well appeal to Bielsa.

Is he better than the Brazilian? No, but if and when Leeds get back into the Premier League, he’d represent a fine option for their top-flight return.
