Leeds United got rid of Liam Bridcutt two years ago with the midfielder joining Championship rivals Nottingham Forest in 2017.
Leeds United’s decision to release Liam Bridcutt two years ago certainly divided the fans.
The tough-tackling midfielder failed to win over each and every member of the Elland Road faithful but his prodigious work rate and leadership was clear for all to see throughout an impressive 2016/17 under Garry Monk.
Bridcutt even captained the side on occasion with Leeds narrowly missing out on a place in the Championship play-offs. So you can see why some questioned the decision to let him go, particularly when the former Brighton star joined league rivals Nottingham Forest.
But while Leeds have made far too many high-profile mistakes in the transfer market in recent years, getting rid of Bridcutt wasn’t one of them. Not with the benefit of hindsight anyway.
At the age of 30, you’d think he would have plenty of years left in him. Nottingham Forest clearly don’t think so, however.
Bridcutt played just one minute of Championship football for the East Midland outfit in 2018/19 and, according to The Sun (June 16, page 60) he could now be about to drop down a division with Peterborough United.
Leeds obviously saw a decline in a player who’s career at Championship level appears to be hanging by a thread.
