Former Leeds United star Johnny Giles has praised the club’s start to the season, and credited it to the change of ownership.
Giles starred for Leeds in the 1960s and 70s and won two league titles with the club.
Now stuck in England’s second tier, confidence is beginning to finally build that they could win promotion after they moved to the top of the table in midweek.
There is a long way to go yet with only seven league matches played, but Giles believes the foundations for success are finally in place.
He discussed the exit of Massimo Cellino for the more stable approach new owner Andrea Radrizzani has brought in off the field as the major factor behind the team’s winning run.
Giles told Ireland’s Newstalk FM when asked if Leeds fans should have hope: “I think so, more than they’ve got for quite a few years.
“They’ve changed the ownership, he seems to be a good lad this lad, the other fellow was a bit of a headbanger. If he’s out of the way, it comes from the top.
“This guy, he’s letting him get on with the job, bought a few players, it’s a very very good start and I’d be more optimistic now about Leeds United than I have been for the last few years.”
Leeds will continue their campaign against Millwall this weekend, who sit in 19th place in the division.
A win will only fuel the optimism which is building, and after more than a decade of chaos, few could begrudge Leeds finally returning to the big time.
