Leeds United are reportedly hopeful that Marcelo Bielsa will stay at Elland Road next season no matter what happens before the summer.

With Sunday’s incredible game with Aston Villa continuing to dominate headlines, Leeds fans would have been forgiven for somewhat forgetting the report from the Yorkshire Evening Post earlier in the day that suggested that the Whites hierarchy were hopeful of keeping Marcelo Bielsa next season no matter what happens in the remaining weeks of this campaign.
Leeds still have a fantastic chance to seal promotion. But some supporters may have felt that there was additional pressure on the squad as there had been concerns that Bielsa may not stick around if the Whites remain in the Championship next year.
But with the Yorkshire Evening Post reporting that the Leeds board are optimistic about keeping Bielsa whatever happens and have held talks about further improvements to the training ground, it appears that the Peacocks may be in line to complete the best piece of business they could possibly do this summer.
It is no secret that Bielsa has worked wonders with his squad. He is largely working with the same team that finished in an uninspiring mid-table position last term, and has turned them into the side that left the supporters devastated when their automatic-promotion hopes largely disappeared after the Easter weekend.

But it is not just the performance on the pitch that Bielsa has transformed. The club now appears to have an identity that feeds right through, and it is difficult to imagine another head coach being able to cultivate anything like that.
There are other figures who have been crucial to building the structure currently in place, of course, but none have arguably made as big an impact as Bielsa.

While he is at the helm, there is a sense that Leeds are making rapid moves in the right direction. And it would perhaps be fair to argue that no person leaving Elland Road this summer would leave a bigger void than Bielsa.
It still remains to be seen if Bielsa does indeed stay if Leeds do not manage to get across the line in the promotion race. But the signs are positive, and it would be difficult to imagine the Whites being able to do a better piece of business during the coming months.
