To the surprise of many, during the January transfer window, West Ham seemingly came knocking for Leeds United duo, Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips.

That doesn’t seem to have gone unnoticed by Phillips, who reacted to Raphinha scoring for Brazil yet again on Instagram and made reference to that rumoured £50 million West Ham bid, as reported by the Guardian.

The Leeds midfielder simply responded in the comments section of Raphinha’s Instagram post: ‘£50 million they said’ added with a laughing and eyes emoji.

Even though Brazil have already qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, they still breezed past Paraguay during their qualifier on Tuesday night.

For Raphinha, he is having the time of his life wearing the famous yellow because he has scored three goals and supplied two assists from seven matches for his country.

Even though Leeds are struggling on the domestic stage, he is still able to replicate that same magic, for both club and country.

That’s why there is so much interest in the player, but some will question the interest that came from the London Stadium.

Was it a tactic from those in the West Ham boardroom?

Perhaps they wanted to appease their fans that they are trying to sign players, when they knew full well there wasn’t any chance they would get either Raphina or Phillips?

Either way, it would have been the shock of the window if either player moved to east London.

But most Leeds fans would have probably laughed off the rumour rather than worry about it when it first surfaced.
