Leeds United have been joined by the likes of West Ham United and Crystal Palace in the race for Jack Marriott.

Despite Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Kemar Roofe contributing three goals between them in Leeds’ most recent game, it would be no surprise if most of the Elland Road faithful were still keen to see the Whites sign a new striker during the January transfer window.

And it would certainly be understandable if the striker that they wanted to arrive was Peterborough United’s Jack Marriott.

Marriott is in his first season at London Road, but he has taken absolutely no time to adapt to his surroundings and currently tops the League One scoring charts by quite some distance having scored 18 goals in the league and 24 in all competitions.

The Sun recently reported that Leeds had shown strong interest in the 23-year-old, as had several of their Championship rivals, but perhaps it should be the presence of two other clubs in the race that should concern Thomas Christiansen regarding their chances of pulling off a deal.

The Sun suggests that both West Ham and Crystal Palace are keen on the Posh frontman, with the Eagles contemplating a £7 million bid for Marriott.

With a £7 million bid potentially on the table, it is surely fair to suggest that Leeds’ chances of signing Marriott already appear to be slim at best.

And given that the Hammers and Palace can offer the striker a chance to make the immediate step up to the Premier League, Marriott would be forgiven for overlooking any interest that is coming from Elland Road, especially given the hit that their play-off bid has taken in recent weeks.
