Leeds are still in talks with Juventus over a deal to sign Weston McKennie – now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an interesting update.

What’s the story?

Well, Jesse Marsch is keen to pair the United States international with Tyler Adams in the heart of his midfield.

Gianluca Di Marzio believes a deal is close between Leeds and Juventus, with Romano adding that McKennie has already agreed to join the Whites.

However, there is yet to be a full agreement reached over finances with the Italian giants.

Many believed this would be an immediate permanent deal for McKennie, although Romano has now claimed that it would be an initial loan move with an option to buy the 24-year-old permanently at the end of the season.

In our view, that is a wise decision by Leeds, as it gives Marsch the chance to see the American in action before deciding whether to invest heavily in his services.

However, it could be an obligation – rather than an option – to buy.

Romano simply uses the word clause, so it is difficult to tell.

Sky Sports believe Leeds are willing to pay €30m (£26m) to bring the Juventus No.8 to Yorkshire, although Juventus are holding out for a fee of €35m (£30m).

Whichever sum Leeds and Juventus eventually shake hands on would presumably be the amount required to pay once the initial loan spell ends, on the basis of Romano’s update on that specific detail.

So far this season, McKennie has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Juventus, scoring three goals while also providing two assists.

The Texas-born maestro also made four appearances for the United States at the World Cup in Qatar.

McKennie likely to thrive at Leeds

In our view, this would be a superb signing by Leeds.

McKennie would surely settle quickly in Yorkshire with fellow Americans Adams and Marsch there to help him – he has already held talks with the latter, according to 90min.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as a deal should progress quickly if Leeds and Juventus agree a fee, given the fact McKennie has already given Marsch the green light that he will join.
