Leeds United youngster Tyler Denton has penned a new contract with the club, and received a message of support from former Whites hero Ian Harte.

Elland Road has become something of a conveyor belt for top young talent over the years, with the likes of Danny Rose, Sam Byram, Charlie Taylor, Fabian Delph, James Milner, Lewis Cook, Aaron Lennon, Alex Mowatt and Jonny Howson all coming up through the ranks with Leeds.

Manager Garry Monk will now be looking to see who the next young star to make the grade will be, as the likes of Lewie Coyle, Ronaldo Vieira, Kalvin Phillips and Mallik Wilks have all been tipped for bright futures at the club.

This week though, Monk handed a first start to 20-year-old left back Tyler Denton as Leeds travelled to face Luton Town in the second round of the EFL Cup – and his decision certainly paid dividends.

Denton scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over the League Two outfit, sending a strike into the top corner of the net with the outside of his left foot to truly announce his arrival into the Leeds first-team setup.

To cap off a fine week, Denton then put pen-to-paper on a new three-year deal at Elland Road, with less than one year left to run on his previous deal.

Whilst Denton wasn’t included in the Leeds squad that lost to Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, it’s been a remarkable few days – and former Whites hero Ian Harte offered him a message of support on Twitter after signing his new deal.

Harte – who works as Denton’s agent – will go down as one of Leeds’ finest left backs ever having starred in the Premier League, and whilst Denton may aspire to get to that level one day, for now he will be looking to develop after committing his future to Leeds, with Harte passing on his congratulations to Denton.
