Newly-appointed Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has admitted that he does not boast the profile of other reported candidates for the role, but claims that he fully believes in himself nevertheless.
The 44-year-old was named as Garry Monk’s successor at Leeds last week following a three-week search for a replacement.
In that time, a lot of names were linked to the job as fans of the Whites were teased with speculation about Claudio Ranieri, Aitor Karanka and Jaap Stam.
As a result, former APOEL Nicosia and AEK Larnaca boss Christiansen was deemed to be a somewhat underwhelming appointment, given the calibre of managers who were rumoured to be in the running.
Nevertheless, the Denmark-born coach, who led APOEL to a top-flight league title in Cyprus last season and a last-16 Europa League spot, acknowledges the fact that he does not arrive as a big-name manager, but he is confident in his own abilities.
The Yorkshire club finished seventh in the Championship under Monk last season and Christiansen will be charged with the task of bettering that finish next time around.
It is a big ask, but the new man should first focus on keeping the core squad together amid speculation about a number of them, and then take it from there.
