Leeds have now made a decision regarding Chris Armas which reeks of another Jean-Kévin Augustin situation.
What’s the story?
Well – in the same week that those in the boardroom at Elland Road put season ticket prices up by 10% – here they are wasting more of the club’s finances as supporters are made to pay for it.
Javi Gracia has now revealed that Armas is no longer part of the coaching staff at Leeds, despite the fact the American only signed a contract in Yorkshire a matter of weeks ago – January 25th to be exact.
For some reason, Jesse Marsch – who was already on the brink of the sack anyway – was allowed to bring Armas to Yorkshire as part of his backroom staff.
It is safe to presume that the 50-year-old signed a contract longer than the six weeks he has been at Leeds, so the Whites will most likely have to pay him off as Gracia decides against keeping the American.
The Athletic have since confirmed that money was “devoted to Armas” – which hints at a lack of probation period.
It is just another bizarre move by those at Leeds in the wake of many others, including their decision to offer Alfred Schreuder a contract to be Marsch’s replacement before effectively being bullied out of that decision by supporters.
Chris Armas is another Jean-Kévin Augustin at Leeds
As aforesaid, this waste of money reminds us of Augustin’s time at Leeds.
Orta and his colleagues famously wasted £18m on the Frenchman after being ordered by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to pay the purchase option they agreed with RB Leipzig back in 2020.

Leeds only got three appearances out of Augustin – with not a single goal or assist – and didn’t even get to keep their £18m signing as they gave written permission for him to join FC Nantes in October 2020.
To waste more money on the hiring – and firing – of Armas, while also putting season ticket prices up for fans during a cost of living crisis, is yet another out of touch move by the Leeds hierarchy.
