It seems like Leeds United youngster Pascal Struijk might be set to be more involved next season in the Premier League.

The versatile Dutch star made a very big impression toward the end of last season when injuries saw United boss Marcelo Bielsa play him a lot more often.

But the 21-year-old only managed 215 minutes of league football all season, though he could have more of a role next term.

That’s because Leeds have upgraded Struijk’s squad number.

The former Ajax youth had worn the 34 shirt last term, but from here on in it’ll be 21.

Samuel Saiz was the last Leeds player to have that shirt number and it’ll be interesting to see if Struijk can be more memorable than the Spaniard who, despite a brilliant first season in West Yorkshire, went totally off the boil once Marcelo Bielsa arrived two years ago and was later sold back to Spain.

Earlier today it was revealed that the Whites – absent from the Premier League since 2004 – would kick off next season with a trip to champions Liverpool.

Struijk has proven himself a very exciting prospect in holding midfield and central defence, and it’ll be interesting to see where Bielsa tends to use him next season.
