Leeds United legend Ian Harte has picked out the Whites trio of Pablo Hernandez, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper as the three players who have stood out for him the most this season.

Marcelo Bielsa’s charges will contest the Championship playoff semi-finals over the next few days, with Derby County standing between them and a place in the final at Wembley.

Leeds were in the top two of the table for much of the 2018-19 season and were involved in an exciting three-horse race for the automatic promotion places along with Sheffield United and Norwich City.

Unfortunately, inconsistency since the turn of the year has ended up costing the Elland Road side dear as they stumbled towards the finish line and have had to make do with a third-placed finish.

Nonetheless, it has been a marked improvement from last season’s 13th-placed finish and Hernandez, Phillips and Cooper have played big roles in keeping Leeds firmly in the upper echelons of the table.

When asked by the official EFL website who he deemed the standout players at Elland Road this season he replied: “I have to mention Pablo Hernandez. He’s a leader on and off the pitch.

“Another two are Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper, who have been rock solid all season. Ideally, both for the Leeds fans and myself, we’d love to see Leeds win promotion.”

Leeds head to Derby’s Pride Park for a Saturday evening (5:15pm) kickoff before hosting Frank Lampard’s Rams at Elland Road on Wednesday night, 7:45pm kickoff.
