Leeds United have little choice but to sell Caleb Ekuban for less than he’s worth.

It was reported in Turkey on Friday that Trabzonspor would take up their option to sign Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban on a permanent basis.
Ekuban left Leeds on a season-long loan last summer and it looks like he has impressed the Turkish side.
According to Aksam, they will trigger to clause to sign him on a long-term basis for €1 million – or £856,000.
But the Whites attacker is probably worth a lot more.
Ekuban is now a fully-fledged international after scoring on his Ghana debut on Saturday and considering he is contracted to Leeds until 2021, it looks like United might be forced to sell him for significantly less than he’s worth.
The Elland Road side paid £500,000 to sign him in 2017 [Yorkshire Evening Post] and will therefore make a profit if and when the sale goes through – but the profit could’ve been substantially more than £356,000.
You can’t blame Leeds for inserting an option to buy in his loan, because this is a player who scored only twice during a poor first season in England last year, but you can perhaps ask questions as to why it was set so low.
Despite struggling for goals last season, Ekuban did show potential and an excellent work ethic. Success in Turkey was never beyond the realms of possibility and it looks like United will pay for that lack of foresight.
