Ouasim Bouy is struggling to show the Leeds United hierarchy why he deserves to be kept on the books at Elland Road as he has been afforded just 37 minutes of first-team football this season.

Bouy, 25, joined Leeds last summer on a permanent basis from Italian champions Juventus, but was immediately shipped out on loan to Spanish side Cultural Leonesa. He managed just four appearances all season.

Returning to Leeds in the summer, Buoy was not given a squad number by Marcelo Bielsa, signifying that he was not in the Argentine’s plans for the 2018-19 season – despite once making an appearance for Juventus.

Rejoining former club PEC Zwolle in the summer on a season-long loan, Bouy has failed to prove he can cut it at Leeds. He has remained on the bench in four of five Eredivisie games since joining.

He played 37 minutes of Zwolle’s 1-0 win over FC Groningen last month, but that has been his only appearance this season. He has even been dropped to the reserve side, where he scored on Monday against Heerenveen in a 2-1 loss.

The Dutch-born Moroccan star needs to buck up his ideas quickly if he is to show Leeds that he deserves to remain at the club until the end of his four-year contract, which runs until the summer of 2021.

But if he continues in this way, the likelihood is that he will be shipped out on a permanent basis by Bielsa’s side next summer, with the Argentine hardly showing no mercy when axing more than 20 players in the last window.
