Leeds United have enjoyed an excellent start to the new Championship season.
If Leeds fans were offered third place in the Championship with no defeats and just two goals conceded after five games, you would surely do well to find a supporter who would turn that down given the incredible number of changes that were made throughout the summer.
Therefore, picking out Leeds’ five best players from the season so far is a difficult task, but here is who HITC Sport believe deserve to be considered amongst the five best…
Samuel Saiz
The 26-year-old has already shown plenty of glimpses to suggest that he will prove to be an inspired signing. He has scored five goals in six Whites appearances, including a hat-trick on his debut. With Saiz in the number 10 position, it is certainly likely that whoever plays up front will not have to worry about whether they will have enough chances to work off.
Eunan O’Kane
As mentioned, Leeds’ form means that narrowing the list down to five is extremely difficult, and the likes of Luke Ayling, Pontus Jansson and Vurnon Anita are undoubtedly unlucky to miss out. Eunan O’Kane has made the list after an extremely promising run in the side – the kind of run he was not really able to enjoy last term. His quality on the ball and ability to win it back has made him an extremely important player just in front of the back four.
Ezgjan Alioski
Like Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski has taken no real time to settle in to life at Elland Road. The tricky winger has been named man of the match in the last two games and rounded off the victory over Nottingham Forest with a brilliant long-range goal. He has also contributed two assists in the league.
Kalvin Phillips
Had Leeds fans been told before the start of the season that Ronaldo Vieira would struggle for minutes and Liam Bridcutt would be sold during the opening weeks of the campaign, it is possible that the supporters may not have believed it. However, O’Kane’s partnership with Kalvin Phillips has been exceptional so far. The latter has really stepped up this term, bagging a brace on the opening day, and demonstrating just how combative he can be in the middle of the park. His challenge leading to the second goal against Forest at the weekend received nearly as many plaudits as the goal itself.
Liam Cooper
No player has arguably enjoyed as great a transformation this term than Liam Cooper. The centre-back was a clear understudy last term, but has shone alongside Jansson at centre-back and has been a true leader for Thomas Christiansen’s side this season. He edges out his centre-back partner for this list but either could have easily been included.
