Leeds United have been linked with Felipe Caicedo this summer.

Leeds United may still be in the market for a new striker before this summer’s transfer deadline, but links to Felipe Caicedo have somewhat cooled down.

Earlier this summer, Imperio in Ecuador reported that Leeds were very interested in signing Lazio striker Caicedo, which always seemed a little ambitious.

The 30-year-old is currently playing in Serie A, and hit eight goals last season, building on a tally of just three goals in his first season.

A burly, physical centre forward, Caicedo has already had one spell in England with Manchester City, but has been something of a nomad having played in Portugal, Spain, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

Marcelo Bielsa may look for a target man having got the best out of Fernando Llorente and Andre-Pierre Gignac earlier in his career, and Caicedo fits a similar type of bill.

Last night, the Ecuador international took to Twitter to tweet out about ‘El Loco’, which is the nickname of Leeds boss Bielsa.

Leeds fans subsequently took to Twitter to wonder if the tweet was about a move to Leeds, with most joking, but some wondering whether he really could be Elland Road-bound after all.

However, those fans will be left disappointed. Caicedo was actually tweeting about Barcelona, his boyhood club in Ecuador, who were taking on Independiente del Valle last night.

Barcelona won 4-1 in a superb win, and forward Jonathan Alvez – also nicknamed El Loco – impressed, scoring the first goal of the game, and that’s what Caicedo was really talking about, so any ideas of Caicedo tweeting about Bielsa can be put to bed immediately.
