Despite Rangers picking up all three points away at Hamilton on Saturday, Ryan Kent was pretty honest when assessing his own performance and stated it’s ‘not good enough’, as he told Sky Sports Football (29/08/20 at 7:30 pm).

The sought-after player, who is seemingly on the radar of Leeds United [Sky Sports], also claimed that he’s ‘not sure’ where his future takes him, as quoted by the Daily Record despite him paying tribute to the Gers fans and his own manager.

Kent has perhaps been Steven Gerrard’s best player during this first month of the campaign, but even though his team won 2-0 yesterday, he didn’t get on the scoresheet and he wasn’t best pleased about it.

“Not good enough because I didn’t get any numbers at the end of the day,” Kent told Sky Sports. “Keep getting in dangerous positions. That’s my target this year to get more goalscoring opportunities. More areas where I can make more assists and chances for the team.

On recent speculation helping his performances: “I’m happy with my month. Three goals. Always looking to add more, being effective in games and getting on the ball as much as I can. Helping the team and as long as we are winning games then I am happy.”

It just goes to show what type of character Kent is that he’s not pleased with his own performance even though his team won and he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Leeds United’s record transfers

  1. Rodrigo (2020)

    £26 million

  2. Raphinha

    £21 million (2020)

  3. Rio Ferdinand (2000)

    £18 million

  4. Diego Llorente (2020)

    £18 million

  5. Helder Costa (2020)

    £16 million

Plus, Leeds fans will love his comments about his future because, whilst he is praising the Ibrox faithful for their support, he’s not exactly ruling out a move.

“Every time I go out on the pitch I just want to give my best for Rangers,” Kent told the Daily Record. “This is a club that has given me opportunities that I’ve not had before. It’s a massive football club so I’ll continue to do right by Rangers.

“I can’t thank the fans enough, they’ve always been supportive of me even when I was on loan. It’s difficult for loan players to come into a club and be welcomed but they did that with me.

“That was a big incentive for coming back here, getting a feel for the size of this club. The fans are one of, if not the, biggest thing about this club. You don’t get fans like Rangers fans so every time I step out on the pitch it’s an honour to represent them. I’ll continue to give my best for Rangers. Where my future takes me, I’m not sure but as long as I’ve got a Rangers shirt on, I’ll give my best.”

Rangers’ record transfers

  1. Tore Andre Flo (2000)

    £12.5m

  2. Ryan Kent (2019)

    £7m

  3. Michael Ball (2001)

    £6.5m

  4. Mikel Arteta (2002)

    £6m

  5. Giovani van Bronckhorst (1998)

    £5.5m

In truth, the more Kent impresses in a Rangers shirt, the more Leeds push that panic button and opt to put serious money on the table for his talents.

There’s no way Rangers would want to sell their star man. But Premier League football talks, and most importantly, money talks, especially given that they have bags of it in England’s top-flight.

The summer transfer will slam shut in October and it wouldn’t be a surprise if this rumour rumbles on right till the end.
