Tony Cascarino has urged Marcelo Bielsa to leave Leeds and take up the post at Barcelona, as he told TalkSport (15/08/20 at 7:40 am).
The former Republic of Ireland striker thinks Leeds fans will be ‘upset’ because of his comments as he made it clear that Bielsa would be his ‘obvious’ choice to become the next manager at the Nou Camp.
The La Liga giants endured the worst night in their history when they were beaten 8-2 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Friday.
It’s evidently clear that there will be a mass clearout at the club following that humiliation and Cascarino thinks Bielsa should be the one taking charge.
“If you said to me tomorrow ‘who would I want to take?’ [for the Barcelona job], I would say ‘sorry Leeds fans’ but I would be after Bielsa every day of the week because he is Barcelona and Barcelona type of football,” said Cascarino.
“The way they play, the hunger and the emphasis on young players. Barca can attract the very best players in the world, and if they can do that, I would want a manager of his ilk.
“I have seen what he has done at Marseille. I have seen what he’s done at Leeds. I see the way he plays football. The fans will adore Bielsa like Leeds fans do.
“To me, he would be the outstanding candidate right now – it’s an obvious [shout]. If I was part of a panel, I would be going ‘go and get him. We need a new dimension with youth’ and he would be persuading Lionel Messi to stay – Leeds fans will be upset because they might think they could lose him. But he would be my obvious choice.”

Bielsa has worked wonders at Elland Road and is now a legendary figure in Yorkshire, whether he were to leave the club tomorrow or in five years time.
But given what he has built at the club during these past few seasons, it would be a crying shame, from the perspective of the Leeds fans, for their new hero to leave now.
First of all, Barca have to come knocking for his signature and given that club legends are now picked to take up managerial roles, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Xavi is the guy to lead the Catalan club back to the top during these coming years.
