Jermaine Jenas told talkSPORT that Kalvin Phillips’ performance during England’s win against Croatia is the best he’s performed.

The TV pundit thinks ‘Leeds fans will be throwing things at me’ for suggesting that was probably the best performance of his career.

Wherever that Wembley display ranks, one thing is for sure, it’s in the top three of his career and he will be hoping to add to that against Scotland on Friday.

Ahead of that showdown, Jenas shared that he would make changes, including bringing Jack Grealish into the starting XI.

“We know Kalvin Phillips was sensational,” said Jenas. “I picked him out after about five or ten minutes.

“It’s the best I have ever seen him play. Probably full stop. I mean, Leeds fans will be throwing things at me. But he was incredible under those circumstances.

On what changes he would make: “Long tournament. I would bring Grealish in. 100%. He has to get a game.

“I would potentially be looking to get Chilwell and Shaw in the side. And I might even start Jude Bellingham.”

A near-perfect midfield performance against one-time Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric will be a moment to savour for Phillips.

The ‘Yorkshire Pirlo’ became the ‘Yorkshire Bryan Robson’ as he produced one of the great midfield performances from an Englishman in recent times.

Elegance, aggression and intelligence all matched with quick-thinking and brute physicality, if Phillips continues these types of performances then Champions League and Premier League winner, Jordan Henderson, won’t be starting much during this tournament.
