It has been a difficult season for Leeds fans. Marcelo Bielsa is gone, relegation is a real possibility, and a number of key men are injured.

Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips have missed significant chunks of the campaign, although there is now good news to share about the latter.

What’s the story?

Well, Leeds posted a photo from training at Thorp Arch this morning which will surely leave the Leeds fans feeling delighted.

It showed Phillips back on the grass at Thorp Arch with a ball at his feet, with a huge smile on his face as well.

The 26-year-old looked in good spirits, and it seems he isn’t far off a return to action.

Without a doubt, that will be music to the ears of Jesse Marsch.

Phillips hasn’t played for Leeds since the 2-2 draw against Brentford on December 5th, missing 12 Premier League games since then with a hamstring injury.

Leeds must be careful with Kalvin Phillips

In our view, Marsch must resist the temptation to throw Phillips straight back into the action.

Leeds only have 11 Premier League games left of this campaign, and they need the England international to feature in as many as possible.

If Marsch rushes Phillips back and causes him to suffer a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury, it would be a nightmare.

It makes much more sense to let the midfielder rest for a game or two, if it ensures that he will be ever present for the run in.

Hopefully, the Leeds No.23’s horrible luck with injuries is coming to an end.
