Grot left Leeds in the summer to join VVV-Venlo on loan.
Jay-Roy Grot was somewhat of an enigma at Leeds United last season. The powerful attacker struggled to make an impression following his move to Elland Road – but now some fans want him back in Yorkshire.
The 20-year-old was signed by Leeds for a fee of £1.5million from Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, but he scored just one goal in 22 appearances. Fans criticised the powerhouse, with some grumbling about his work ethic.
Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival saw Grot join a whole host of Victor Orta’s signings to leave in the summer, leaving the club to return to his home country with Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo.
Back in Holland, Grot has shone. In his 11 league appearances in the top flight of Dutch football, Grot has scored two goals from the flank, as well as providing an assist.
His excellent form has even seen him earn a call-up to Holland’s Under-21 side, where he has never previously won a cap – instead picking up six caps with the Under-20 side.
Leeds fans have taken notice of his superb form in the Netherlands, and some are keen to see him given a second chance when his loan expires at Elland Road. Some supporters reckon that under Bielsa, Grot could thrive.
