Sam Dalby has been hugely impressive for Leeds United’s under-23s and several fans want him to be given a chance.

Several Leeds fans have suggested that it may be time to consider throwing Sam Dalby in for Saturday’s clash with Sunderland after the youngster travelled with the first-team for their Championship game against Fulham on Tuesday night.

Dalby is undoubtedly one of the major success stories to emerge from Victor Orta’s underwhelming time in charge of the Whites’ recruitment. The former Leyton Orient prospect has been lethal for the under-23s and was rewarded by being called up to travel with the senior side for the trip to Craven Cottage – though he was not included in the squad.

He had to look on as the promotion-chasers won the game 2-0. Leeds undoubtedly had their chances to clinch something from the game, but two of the club’s strikers fluffed their lines.

With the score at 1-0, Caleb Ekuban was played through on goal but failed to beat Marcus Bettinelli, while Jay-Roy Grot managed to put a header over the bar from a couple of yards out when the goal was gaping.

The pair boast one league goal each – the same tally that Chris Wood remains on following his summer departure – and while they are young forwards who were always going to need time, the patience is certainly running out.

For many supporters, it is time for Dalby to get a chance when the Black Cats travel to Elland Road. He will be high on confidence as he continues to impress for Carlos Corberan’s team, and some feel that throwing him in would not be a terrible idea at all with little to play for this season.
