For Leeds United, it’s been a largely positive campaign, with Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival spearheading a transformation from a mid-table team into one challenging for the title, but 2019 has been a little up-and-down to say the least.
In what is proving a tight and enthralling title race, the Whites are third in the table, having been beaten by Sheffield United at Elland Road last weekend, the Blades now second and Norwich City top of the pile, five points ahead of Leeds.
Speaking to the official club website, striker Patrick Bamford gave his thoughts on the 1-0 loss to Chris Wilder’s side, saying the hosts felt they “should have won”, before looking ahead to the last eight games of the season and putting some pressure on the current top two.
He said: “For once the pressure is taken off us, we are no longer in the driving seat, us and Norwich have been in the top two places, but Sheffield haven’t had that pressure yet, they have always been the underdog and it will be interesting to see how they deal with it.
“The majority of the focus is going to be on the other two teams and hopefully we can do our business and get on with it, with a little less focus.”
