Leeds United midfielder and birthday boy Pablo Hernandez has been nominated for March’s Championship Player of the Month award.
The Spaniard, who turned 34 on Thursday, could very well be celebrating a (slightly) belated present, with the accolade set to be officially announced on Friday morning.
Hernandez has been consistently good this season for the Whites but enjoyed an especially superb March, weighing in with five goals and also registering two assists.
As a result, he is in the running for the award, going up against two players from fellow Yorkshire clubs and one from Norwich City.
Rotherham United’s Semi Ajayi is in for his five goals in five games, while Sheffield United defender Jack O’Connell helped to keep four clean sheets in five games for his side.
Completing the nominated quartet is Canaries midfielder Emiliano Buendia, who scored three goals and set up two more for his side.

Hernandez joined Leeds initially on a six-month loan from Qatari club Al-Arabi in August 2016 and impressed enough to get a contract until the end of that season, but such has his impact been at the club that he is now on a deal until 2020 (Transfermarkt).
