The Whites legend was a shining light during a tough period at Elland Road.

A number of Leeds United fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on Jermaine Beckford’s retirement as the Whites social media channel paid tribute to the 35-year-old for his exploits at Elland Road.
Beckford, who was given his big break at Leeds having signed him from Wealdstone in 2006, led the line alongside Luciano Becchio following the Whites’ relegation to League One, having previously spent time on loan at Carlisle and Scunthorpe.
He scored 85 goals in 152 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, 72 of which came in the league (Leeds Live), and two of those 85 stand out as being two of the most important in the Elland Road side’s recent history.
One of those was on 3 January 2010 at Old Trafford, when Beckford netted the winner against Manchester United to condemn Alex Ferguson to his first third-round defeat in the competition as Red Devils boss, and the second was the winner against Bristol Rovers to secure promotion back to the Championship.
Beckford left Leeds for Premier League side Everton in 2010 and had stints at Leicester, Huddersfield, Bolton and Preston after his year at Goodison Park but, following an injury-impacted stint at Bury, he took to Instagram to announce his retirement, as reported by Leeds Live.
Leeds posted a video compilation of Beckford’s key goals for the Whites, plus a well-wishing message, and some of the Elland Road faithful followed suit on Twitter:
