Some Leeds United fans want Marcelo Bielsa to start using Jamie Shackleton as Kalvin Phillips’s replacement.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that Phillips was set to be sidelined for up to five weeks.

The Leeds midfielder suffered a knee injury in the dramatic win at Swansea City this past weekend and will therefore miss the rest of the season.

Phillips is a Thorp Arch graduate and so is Shackleton, who hasn’t featured all that much since football resumed last month.

But fans of the Elland Road club want to see the the 20-year-old playing as Phillips’s deputy between now and the end of the season.

Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:

The good news here is that Leeds are almost already promoted anyway, so missing somebody of Phillips’s quality might not be all that detrimental.

Bielsa’s side need only four points from the last three games to assure themselves of a Premier League return.

Is Shackleton the man to step in and help get his boyhood club over the line? We’ll see tomorrow when Barnsley visit Elland Road.
