A number of Leeds fans have responded to Liam Cooper’s tweet after the Whites captain appeared for the under-23s during their 3-1 win against Hull on Monday – with many expressing their hope that he is back in the first-team this Friday.

Cooper has spent more than a month on the sidelines due to a knee injury that he sustained in the win at Sheffield United at the start of December.

But he handed Marcelo Bielsa a massive boost ahead of Friday’s crucial Championship clash with Derby County. It is not entirely clear whether he is in contention to feature against the Rams, but his performance on Monday certainly suggested that he is raring to go.

Cooper played just over an hour in tricky conditions as Carlos Corberan’s men picked up an impressive win that has sent them back to the top of the table.

There were a couple of moments where the 27-year-old’s rustiness showed, but he also made a fantastic block during the first-half that would have certainly left many holding their breath as they waited to see whether he would instantly pop back up.

And following the game, Cooper took to social media to comment on the game. Unsurprisingly – given the way he has always seemed to conduct himself – the defender was quick to shift the focus towards the youngsters on show. But his tweet did also hint that he came through the game unscathed.

And that has left many supporters hoping that his display provides all the proof that Bielsa needs that he is ready for Friday’s game. Leeds have struggled defensively without Cooper, so his return would clearly be a huge boost for the Whites.
