Leeds United have announced their first signing of the summer, with Lewis Baker joining on loan.

England's midfielder Lewis Baker celebtates scoring a penalty during the UEFA U-21 European Championship Group A football match England v Poland in Kielce, Poland on June 22, 2017.

A large number of Leeds fans took to Twitter to respond to Lewis Baker’s tweet after the Chelsea midfielder became the club’s first signing of the Marcelo Bielsa era by joining on a season-long loan deal.

With Bielsa arriving and several exciting names linked already, it feels as if there has not been a campaign with this much anticipation at Elland Road for a few years – and there have certainly been some highly-anticipated seasons in recent times.

Nevertheless, the supporters would have been forgiven for feeling a little anxious initially as they awaited that first addition to the ranks. But that wait is now over.

It was confirmed towards the end of this week that Baker has joined on a season-long loan, meaning that Leeds are set to become the sixth club that the 23-year-old has played for during his short career. Of course, most of those spells have been loan deals, with his most recent coming at Middlesbrough last season.

Baker appears to have an extremely bright future ahead of him, but like many of the Chelsea youngsters, his path to the Blues’ first-team is not exactly clear so he may perhaps be hoping to make a real statement during his time at Leeds.

And after the loan deal was announced, Baker took to social media to express his delight at the switch and commented on the atmosphere he will be hoping to inspire inside Elland Road during the coming season.

And in response to Baker’s tweet, the large majority of the Leeds supporters suggested that they were extremely pleased with the club’s decision to get the midfielder in. He is clearly a bright talent, and many think that he could be a real asset to Bielsa’s side.

Of course, many optimistic supporters suggested that his move sees him join the biggest club of his career so far, while others expressed their desire to see Baker help Leeds end their long, long wait to get back into the top flight.
