Steve McClaren wasn’t happy with the penalty Leeds United received on Saturday.

Steve McClaren intimated to Leeds Live that Leeds United supporters influenced the referee to award their side a penalty in Saturday’s 2-1 win over QPR.
Leeds edged out the Londoners at Elland Road this past weekend to open up a five-point gap in the Championship’s automatic promotion spots.
Referee Peter Bankes awarded the Whites a penalty – their first since October 2017 – after Toni Leistner was adjudged to have handled inside the area, before Kemar Roofe stepped up and slammed home what turned out to be the winner.
McClaren said on Leeds Live: “I think there was a lot of influence behind the goal. But we recovered well after that and as I say, proud of the performance disappointed with the result.”
Here’s how United fans have reacted to McClaren’s comments:

Dubious penalty aside, it was Leeds’ fourth successive Championship win since the 4-1 mauling at West Brom prior to the most recent international break, and what a response from Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Lesser coaches would have been unable to prevent a full-blown losing streak after such a confidence-draining defeat, but the Argentine has been able to minimise the effects of what happened at The Hawthorns.
It’s still too early to predict the last five months of what will surely be a rollercoaster second half of the season, but Leeds, on this form, have a very, very good chance of staying in the top two and booking their long-awaited Premier League return come May.
