Several Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Sheffield United’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City that leaves the Whites second heading into the final five fixtures of the campaign – with many admitting that they have suddenly changed their mind on their opinion of Garry Monk.

The Whites put the pressure on the Blades heading into Wednesday’s game as two goals from Patrick Bamford helped Marcelo Bielsa’s men to a hard-fought victory away at Preston North End.

Birmingham went into the clash with Chris Wilder’s side having already put a dent in Leeds’ promotion hopes with a 1-0 victory at St Andrew’s on Saturday. And it briefly appeared that they were about to hand Bielsa’s side a further blow as Enda Stevens handed the visitors the lead after 38 minutes.

But the Blues struck back quickly, with Michael Morrison equalising just before half-time. And after a tense second-half, Birmingham managed to see out the game to ensure that they took four points from their two games with the automatic-promotion chasers.

And the result sparked an incredible reaction amongst Leeds fans on social media. There is a clear divide, with some preferring to not get carried away given how often the Whites and the Blades have swapped places since facing each other at Elland Road before the last international break.

However, others have not held back in mocking Sheffield United. And many have lauded former boss Monk for the latest result. Monk remains an unpopular figure amongst the Leeds fans, but several supporters have admitted that they are grateful to their old head coach.
