Samuel Saiz endured a difficult evening as Leeds United could only draw their latest Championship game.
It would be difficult to reach an unanimous decision regarding which Leeds player has looked the most transformed since they started working with Marcelo Bielsa, but it is likely that some Whites supporters would suggest Samuel Saiz.
Saiz’s brilliance was no secret heading into this season, but his form towards the end of the last campaign would have left many wondering whether he would be able to rediscover his very best form for his second year in England.
But the initial signs suggested that Saiz had become a devastating magician once again as he played a vital role in Leeds’ surge to the top of the Championship. Nevertheless, his most recent performance prompted a number of fans to express some frustration on social media.
Bielsa’s side ensured that they would go into the international break top of the Championship by securing a point at home to fellow pace-setters Middlesbrough on Friday night. It was a cagey game which neither side was able to dominate, and it was also a contest which saw Saiz struggle to stamp his authority.
His attempts to run with the ball were often thwarted with Boro clearly aware that letting the Spaniard run would be a big mistake, and his ability to find that killer pass in the final third largely deserted him on a night where Leeds struggled to create many chances.
As was pointed out by some supporters on social media, if Saiz was going to be capable of finding his best form in every single game he played, there would be little chance of him plying his trade in England’s second tier. But that has not stopped many supporters feeling slightly frustrated with his display against Tony Pulis’ side.
